The Wilson Desk

This late 19th century writing desk belonged to
James Wilson, first store keeper and first Mayor of
Broughton Creek (which is now Berry).
It came from the fine residence "Glenworth"
which Wilson built on Berry Mountain in his later years.

It remained in the family until 1984.

The Door of the old Bank Vault

The Museum Building

Built in 1885 for the English Scottish & Australasian Bank.
During the man power shortage of the 1939-1945 war
the building was bought by the Berry Municipal Council
and used for a short period as Council Chambers.
The Berry Council was amalgamated
into the Shire of Shoalhaven 5th April 1948.
It was later leased back to the bank until 1972.

Berry Museum has rented the building from 1975.

The Greer Headstones

The Greer Headstones

This headstone, probably the earliest to be found in
the district, commemorates Thomas Greer,
a convict assigned to Alexander Berry in 1831.
His wife Eliza, and their four sons applied for passage
to join Thomas but by the time they arrived he had died.
Eliza married another convict, John Weekes.
He died in 1877 and was buried besides Thomas (stone on left).
The Thomas Greer headstone is currently on loan to the National Museum, Canberra.
